Melior Community Academy opened on January 1st 2013 and is sponsored by the Delta Academies Trust.

As an Academy we receive funding directly from the government and are run by an academy trust. We have more control over how we do things than local authority schools. For example we do not have to follow the national curriculum and we could choose to set their own term times. Academies do not charge fees. Academies are inspected by Ofsted. We have to follow the same rules on admissions, special educational needs and exclusions as other state schools and students sit the same exams.

Delta Academies Trust is a multi-academy trust, operating 46 schools. As an academy trust, it is an exempt charity regulated by the Department for Education, with its values drawn from the public sector and Directors appointed on a voluntary basis. Our CEO is Paul Tarn.

It operates as a single multi-academy sponsor and in that capacity is one employer across all the Academies which it sponsors.

Delta has a proven track record, as well as the educational expertise, capacity and experience to secure transformational change and sustainable academy improvement in the schools which it supports through sponsorship. It is currently responsible for the leadership and governance of a number of academies including infant, primary, secondary and free schools.

With a predecessor educational trust history going back to 2004, Delta, has an impressive record in school improvement and has established an organisation which provides a 21st Century model for collaboration within the public sector and is a ‘not for profit’ organisation with public accountability.

Melior Community Academy opened its site in 2011 in a new state of the art £18M building. It is a stunning, fit for purpose learning environment. Learning is at the heart of everything that we do.  High achievement is expected and success celebrated.  At Melior you can expect a culture of ‘child centeredness’ ‘no child without’, challenge and high expectations in order to help your child reach their full potential.

Melior Community Academy has a very positive learning environment within which young people can develop a love of learning, high self esteem and a moral code that will enable them to  contribute positively to the world of the 21st century.

We want all young people to bring to school a ‘can do’ attitude, a willingness to contribute, a respect for others and a determination to give their best.  Parents are expected and encouraged to work with us to support our values.

Melior Community Academy is recognised for its strong STEM provision and exceptional performance in Science and mathematics. These subject areas are complimented by further strengths in the EBACC, English and the Expressive Arts, allowing our students to develop into truly well rounded individuals.

Exam results continue to put Melior Community Academy at the top of the table and support its Ofsted judgement of good with outstanding. Melior currently has 770 students on role with 820 to be in place by September 2021, it is rapidly becoming a school of choice amoungst the local community.

The ethos of the Academy is very much one of warmth and fairness but with strong values around discipline and expectations. All students no matter what their background are actively encouraged to aspire beyond expectations.

Melior alumni have secured jobs across various sectors including performing arts, engineering, education, medicine and public service.

We are very proud of all our students and the community we serve.
