SEND

Melior Community Academy aims to support students with special education needs and disabilities by removing barriers to learning and facilitating participation in all aspects of school life. We are a fully inclusive Academy and we believe that all students should be valued and treated with respect.  The school works within the framework provided by the SEN Code of Practice (2014) and the Disability Equality Act.

Our expectation for all our students is that they will make good to outstanding progress.  We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) and those without, both in terms of within-school variation and variation from national expectations.

The academy supports students in 4 main areas:

  • communication and interaction,
  • cognition and learning,
  • behaviour, emotional and social development
  • sensory and/or physical.

We offer a variety of support for students including; in-class support, 1-2-1 or small group interventions. We also work collaboratively with outside agencies ensuring specialist advice and provision supports effective teaching and learning.
